The University Church of England Academy have recently participated in the BBC News school report. Students from year seven and eight gifted and talented groups participated in creating reports for the news day . The students were able to report on issues such as Google maps , the new academy and even had an interview with Mr. McDermott,. The students were able to use digital cameras to capture images to link with their stories.

At the beginning of the day the students participated in the ‘Largest Interactive Weather Report’ to try and gain a world record. PC Sissons the school’s  ‘Community Police Officer’ was the independent witness, to make the students were not  cheating!  The students then got the opportunity to read through a selection of local and national newspapers in order to identify what was important news and which was not.

The students split into two groups and worked on separate projects. The year 8 students reported on Google Street View and the year 7 students reported on our new academy. The students enjoyed being reporters for the day and gained valuable skills in reporting and using publishing software.

In order to make the day successful sixth form media students helped out to ensure the reports would be in on time and to a high standard. Staff at The University Church of England Academy were very proud of all the students. Mrs. Williams who is an Achievement Director at the academy said I have really enjoyed the day and it has been a privilege to work with excellent students who rose to the challenge”. The events of the day will hopefully be featured in our local newspaper  The Ellesmere Port Pioneer, which will be a great achievement for the students at such a young age . The students are already asking in anticipation when the next news day will be !
